Disco 4 (LR4) (3.0 HSE) Fuel gauge fault

I managed to clip a kerb while driving in Snowdonia at the weekend (Ok, I was looking at the scenery!) and the fuel gauge instantly stopped working. It just reads empty and I get the "Low fuel" warning.
It has failed in the past but then come back to life. This time it seems to be more permanent.
Someone said check for EPB fault codes as these can affect it, which I'm about to do, but can anyone else offer any suggestions?

No codes from the EPB as such, but the instrumentation ECU gave the following 2 codes:

B100D - Steering column lock plausibility
U0128 - Lost Communication with Park Brake Control Module (PBCM)

I'm guessing the fault is related to the second code.

That would be very odd even though not impossibe when it comes to a D4 but the seder is connected directly to the BCM which manages the gauge, IMO it can be as simple as the sender or it's circuit to be at fault

I’ve just had exactly the same issue - how did you solve this Bukko?

My local indy fixed it. The sensor inside the tank needed re-connecting.

My L320 RR Sport jammed the handbrake and after using the emergency release and removing the fuse for the EPB the fuel gauge dropped to zero. Putting the fuse back in and clearing codes did not fix the gauge.
The vehicle then started surging and behaving like the fuel pump was failing even though there was 70L of diesel in the tank.
The car then stopped beside the road and had to be flat top towed.

At the workshop I had codes for communication to handbrake module lost and P115a - Low fuel strategy and P115b - low fuel, forced engine shutdown. These codes would return immediately after clearing.
The computer had decided to shutdown to protect the HP pump and injectors because it thought I was below 4L remaining fuel.

The fix...
I removed the rear exhaust to gain access to the EPB, removed the cover and bashed the brass nut to free it up, adjusted the brake shoes and refitted the EPB fuse.
Cycled the ignition and the fuel gauge returned showing full and the handbrake was now working.
Weird!
