Ok so briefly:

I would like to provide turbo power to my winch for high speed no load spooling, switching back to 12v for load winching.

This is what David Bowyers kit does, but it has the downside of a £200 price tag.

I'm not scared of paying for stuff, but in this case I think I can assemble it myself.

I have sketched a few diagrams and worked out what needs to be done to actuate the changeover, keeping 12v at the car but 24v across the winch and isolating the alternator from battery 2 (otherwise a 24v circuit cannot be setup)

I think I basically need 2 solenoids, one to change the positive lead on battery 1 from positive on battery 2 to negative on battery 2, and another to disconnect winch negative from battery 2 negative (it is permanently connected to battery 1 negative)

I am just wondering if there are any electrical doods who know of the a component that can perform the task. The thing is that when de-energised the solenoids still need to make contact with one side, and when energised they need to change over to other side. Winch solenoids are centre off and can be energised either way.

Any ideas/discussion etc please.

Cheers

Anyway, no the winch will be ok with 24v no load.

A lot of guys with bowmotors overvolt them all the time, but a cheaper winch motor would probably burn out. Off load it won't be a problem, you simply need to watch for overspeeding.

Cheers.

P.s. if I fry my motor then I'll need an upgrade :D
