As title really, been offered a set of nearly new A/T's for a bargain price

If they wont fit on a standard Freelander, would I need to fit a +2" lift to allow fitment, or is it just a no go?

TIA :)

They'll fit without a lift kit.

The lift kit moves the body higher which helps increase arch clearance if you run with heavy loads in the car. Otherwise the closest parts they'll come to are the lower spring cups, and you'll have a handful of mm's to play with there!

Don't forget that if you fit them your speedo will be well out.

This size tyre is over 7% bigger circumference than the standard size and will therefore show a speed of 70mph when you are really doing 75mph.

We don't know how accurate your speedo is in the first place so beware of speed cameras.

The tyres may be cheap, but is this really worth it. I would not use them on the road even if they did fit.

Compared to my sat nav my speedo is now perfect (on Insa Turbo Ranger A/T 205/80/16's) - it was reading VERY far out with standard wheels. Maybe different cars will be different but that's certainly been my experience.

As long as they're not damaged and are not a too extreme "off road" pattern I would have no concerns using them on the road. I've lost a few MPG with chunkier treads but as long as you don't expect sports car grip and handling in the twisties they're perfect!

Hi all, can I be a PITA & ask if anyone has pics of their car with bigger tires on standard suspension please?
It's something I'm considering doing, mainly for the look when I need new tires as the only off roading I do is when I take the dog for a walk (bring on the dogging comments)
Thanks.

Stuart

Hey that looks great!!! - is the lift kit easy to fit? Re tyres at indicated 70mph what rpm are you doing ..... mine is around 2700rpm with 15 inch wheels.....

That pic is before the lift was fitted @ standard ride height. The lift kit is effectively just a plate/block that sandwiches between the strut top and the mount to the body. You need to undo the 3 bolts at the top of each strut and drop the suspension components out of the way. It's a bit of a fiddly job but many on here have fitted them quite easily I think.

I am unsure of my RPM @ 70mph but will have a look today when we're out! (if I can reach 70...!)

Any percentage difference between sizes can be calculated at TYRESAVE: Tyre Size Calculator

when you fitted the lift kit, did you have to get your 4 wheels alligned?

Yeah, best to get a full suspension check when adjusting anything round the wheels! They're wearing evenly enough and handle well so I'm happy with the mods.

205/80/16 is the VERY MAX. size you can go for without spacing out the wheels. Literally only a few mm gap between the inside top edge and the suspension spring lower cup.
