I think they put a lot of work these days into tolerances, particularly minimal tolerances.
Economic tolerance 🤔
The wet belt made from synthetic rubber (oil) breaks down in the oil and blocks the oil strainer.... Poof, dead engine.. A later Ford mhev engine replaced the wet belt with a chain but left the oil pump driven by... Yes you guessed it.... A wet belt☹️
Disposable engines...
Progress or over complicated?
Although some things can make technological sense it doesn't mean it makes real life sense.. Some modern cars life expectancies really are getting to a ten year mark and we've no other choice in this decision and as it may not be a concern to the new driver which is fine for those who can afford these vehicles it doesn't benefit the rest of those who can't. Apart from being a waste of resources and energy, it's a ridiculous evolution of vehicles.
Putting 300bhp engine in a 3t tank of a car for example, will require spaceship tech to stop it going through a school fence and hurting people, oh.. Actually it didn't...
We can do anything as human beings, we are amazing but sometimes we just don't have to 😶

Well said young man.

For me the car is too big for a 2.0, which also have issues, but then many modern (big cars do) mainly because the owners dont really need such a car.

What do you intend to use it for? Driving to school and the shops will give problems.

J
I travel a lot for work so it will mostly be used for commuting, the roads are pretty **** as well and my audi s3 is not enjoying them lol

Euro 6 onwards, so basiclaly 2015 ish onwards, but anything with a dpf would steer me clear, though my main experience is with hgvs.
Even the farmers are trying to avoid the new gear as it is so much bother, I dont think is is the cost though that is certainly an issues, it is the unreliablity that they hate.
In Ireland most remove the dpf from their cars, not totally legal but given the amount of problems they cause a lot of people take the risk.

Talking of the newer cars I watched this today , wonder how effective the new JLR update is

Plus the way there stolen is changing so hiding the obd2 port doesn’t seem to work anymore

Really does make owning an older car more attractive, particularly to reduce u getting pulled out the vehicle

I have a ghost immobilizer installed on my current car, seems to do the job however nobody's tried to rob my to car my knowledge
