now i drive a 2003 td5 defender which isnt too bad to do journeys in but i wouldnt like to do a 3 hours journey in it, not without a disco tbox atleast anyway i will be bringing a 2013 defender up from london to lincoln and was just wondering if they are much different to drive to a td5. i.e cruise better at 70, quieter etc

Mine was the 2.4XS, but cruising at 70 all day was pretty relaxed.
The heater works and you can hear the Radio!
Mine even had an iPod input socket.

kushdy ken, its on factory tyres too so shouldnt get alot of road rumble

It'll sit at 95 comfortably on the motorway. Not great at stopping still. Good injun, but not any quicker than the 2.4 off the line. Sixth is quite nice.

My first defender was a 95 110 hi cap, drove it home, Cambridge to Warrington

It was terrifying , the steering box had that much play in it it was 1/2 a turn before anything happened , trucks were coming past me and the suction was pulling the landy over towards them

The lights were pathetic, it was raining and it looked like it still had the original wiper blades on which did stuff all

The drivetrain was like one of those old safes where you see loads of cogs turning then 10 seconds later the door opens

A 3 hour trip in a 2013 model will be like being in a Bentley by comparison

to be fair mines not that bad, it just revvs high at 70mph and the steering has about 1/5 turn slack in it

well, collected it today, 3 1/2 hours of driving later and it was actually not too bad, sat at 70 happy as larry, only issue was that because it was a van model there was no radio
