Freelander 2 (LR2) 2013 FL2 front wiper issue

Hi All

i have a 2013 FL2 Facelift
i have a strange problem with my front wiper. nothing from stalk input when i try to turn wipers on. however when i use front screen wash the wipers work as they should and do a clearing sweep a few seconds later
i can also change to winter mode and the wipers mover as they should. no input from rain sensor either
everything else on the stalk works fine just no manual wiper speed adjustment of auto setting

any ideas

They have separate relays for the sweep and speed functions, so I would start there. I think your model year does not have a fuse in the system, it being built in to the CJB/BCM.
May also be worth checking the bonnet switch as it has to be closed for wipers to work.

Pretty sure the switches send messages on the F2 (as opposed to simply raising a power feed).

Does anyone know if these messages can be displayed with diagnostic kit? ie does, for example, SSD show 'wiper speed 1 requested' type messages? Would show whether the request is being made and not actioned or simply not requested.

Think your right, it works on a LIN system.

The OP hasn't been back on since making the initial post. Unfortunately I don't have time waste looking it up for no reason at present.

But I'm sure it's all done with the low speed CAN, as that's the only way the automatic wipers would work.

I am probably as guilty as the next person but it would be nice if we knew the outcome of such problems for future reference.

I've only got the early wiring diagram. It shows the wiper motor is powered by 2 micro relays in the battery junction box. Relay RE11 is the on off relay, which supplies power to relay RE8, which is the speed control relay.
If RE11 fails, then there will be no power to RE8, which means the wipers won't work.

The steering column control module is responsible for all column switch functions. This module has its own fuse (FS7) in the CJB, which is worth checking, although fuse failure would prevent all the column switches from working, not just the wiper functions.
The data from the column module is sent down the LIN bus to the CJB, where the requests are sent to the relevant places.
Complex init.
