2013 Defender 110 XS

Hey all,

Been on here a while, with my 2002 Discovery 2 TD5. Gotten fed up of it always breaking, had it about 5 years so have decided to chuck it in and treat myself!

Picked up this 2013 Defender 110 XS with some tasty mods already, decent price and figured now is as good a time as any before the prices go up even more! Always wanted a Defender, and so hoping to keep this one forever.

Plan is to treat this one nicely, and focus on the bits that will keep it in the best possible condition - so any recommendations/tips on essential bits to start with would be great. First Defender so a little different to the Discovery! I'm thinking I should probably start with some form of chassis prep/painting - boring but important. Have to try to resist spending lots of money on unnecessary toys (he says eyeing up the double DIN dash so he can have Apple CarPlay...)

Oh and still need to finish putting the Disco back together so I can sell it...

Okay so had a chance to check it all over more thoroughly, and have noticed a few bits:
- the door hinge bolts are starting to look rusty, where am I best to get replacements from? I'm assuming stainless steel is the best bet; anyone know if you can get them in black?

- weird bunch of holes at the rear, above the rear crossmember I think, and I couldn't figure out if this was a separate panel that could be replaced? Not sure what to call this part either! If anyone knows the name of it, or the best way to fix/replace that would be super helpful!

Old and new together! Spent yesterday finishing off the brake pad replacement on the Disco - what was supposed a simple job turned into need a replacement rear caliper (piston seized) and replacement front calliper carrier (guide pins seized). All done in the end though and one step closer to getting rid!

Yes great looking car, black wheel arches look good.
I added a double din, with rear camera and linked to Apple play, brilliant mod, well worth it.
Security Items l would say should be high on the list.
I also like bumper driving lights, but the bumper you currently have on the car looks good and suits the car, shame the grille is hidden.
New door bolts a must.

Thanks! Any recommendations for the Apply Play unit? Has anyone released a wireless compatible one yet, I know they've been talked about for a while now?
Yeah I need to look into the security side of things - what would be the top items do you think?
Same! I think maybe some of the LED Halo style headlights would scratch that itch...
Do you know where is best to get the bolts from?

I have a Alpine unit myself, one of the first items l add to my project. Electric windows and heated seats also added at the same time. Phone apps work really well on Apple play satnav and Spotify.
There are many security items out on the market, but l would deffo have layered security. Pedal/steering guards are a must, first item, then add when you have the funds.
Go for the bolts with Torx heads rather than the Philip heads, look better. LRD security do many great security items.

Yes to chassis protection. Give it a really good jetwash in all the many nooks and crannies, particularly everything behind the back wheels, the spring/shock attachment areas and the outriggers that support the bulkhead. Then get it coated in and out with Dinitrol/Waxoyl. Best if you use the same stuff to slow down the rot inside the doors too.

I threw away my Defender rear body without looking too hard at it, but I'm fairly sure that strip under the back door is a riveted in part of the body. It looks like corrosion, and I've never seen it that bad before. It's definitely a mud trap behind it - you'll find it with your jetwashing (above). I'd get it all clean and dry, fill it from outside and then get the Dinitrol in there to stop it getting worse.
