Hi everybody - it has been a little while since I was last on the site!
A lot of water, (and a fair number of vehicles), have passed under the bridge since then.
I acquired a very nice 2007 Range Rover TDV8 a couple of years ago and was very impressed with the vehicle - despite a number of issues I had to sort out . . .
The Rangey would run the battery down within a few hours if it was locked with the central locking - but the Rangey would retain its charge for several days if I didn't lock it - a replacement battery sorted that!
Some time later I experienced the 'three amigos' with the Rangey going into limp mode several seconds, (or sometimes a couple of minutes), from driving off my drive.
I was then confronted with every error known to mankind, (Suspension, hill assist, etc . . .), but this simply turned out to be a problem with the fuel filter.
I had a lovely drive down to Devon, (to pick up a CLK320), with this vehicle and a very long trailer which I will always remember with a smile!
Anyway, I digress, that Rangey went, some time ago, but I still have a desire to own another TDV8 and I have the opportunity to take a very big gamble on a 'spares/repairs' 2010 Range Rover Sport TDV8 which has two faults as follows: -
Oil/fuel leak around one of the injectors - that is as much detail as the owner can, (or is prepared), to give me.
He also states that the Rangey drives fine but is a little 'jerky' when you put your foot down - the owner states he uses the vehicle most days for short trips?
The second fault is with the electric parking brake - again no further details.
I have to admit that I am both intrigued, (and somewhat allured), by this vehicle as it is the later L322 model, (approximately 120k), with all the toys and keyless entry, etc, and the current price is less than a second hand mountain bike I am hoping to purchase later this week!
So do I bite the bullet or simply walk away?
The main deciding factor will be the test drive just to see if the engine is trying to tell me something but if it appears to be reasonably happy I would be hoping to drive it home - a mere 125 miles or so!
I am well used to adventures, (it all started with the P38 ten years ago!), and I purchased a Porsche, (approximately 35 miles north of Edinburgh), last year and drove that home - only to run out of steam, literally, when the water pump failed just outside Doncaster and both the Porsche and I arrived home on the back of a recovery vehicle!
I know there is no definitive answer to my plight but I just wondered if anybody has experienced fuel leaks on/in/around the injectors?
I am presuming that it could be a leak in the fuel supply or return lines or even from the injector itself?
But not sure if the TDV8 suffers any problems with the injector clamps that hold the injectors against the cylinder heads - such as the 'black death' problem with the Mercedes 5 cylinder diesel engines that they fitted to the Jeep Grand Cherokee?
Sincere apologies for the essay but I promise to provide you with many more tales - should I decide to take, (yet), another gamble!
Watch this space.
Regards,
Martin.
