Here's a strange one, Driving home after work and all of a sudden a drop of power then a noise from the what I thought was the Turbo.

Strip down the next day expecting a total mess and blown Turbo. Instead I found what looked like a washer in the Filter pipe.

The fins have taken a bit of a battering and one slightly broken. I checked movement and all seem fine. Took the Landy for a spin and all seem's fine except for a different sound when the Turbo spins up.

I'm guessing that its the shape that it is now that's changed the pitch. Anyone any idea where this washer came from?. And am I looking at another Turbo ASAP as its only a matter of time before it goes due to the damage.

Took a close look at the filter and there's no problem there nothing fallen of or loose.

All thoughts ideas welcome, Oh anyone with a Turbo??!!.

Cheers.

Pics attached.

I've got a spare turbo in the same state as yours :) I think someone might've allowed a loose washer in the air filter housing. Swapped your air filter recently?

Did a full service mid summer and was carefull with what went where. There is only one way into the Turbo inlet so am guessing I f*cked up somewhere along the lines.

Just seems odd. Did you swap yours out becouse of the damage?. And if so how long did you leave it?.

Seem's obviouse but am hopeing I can do the job in the spring!!.

do you have a picture of the washer?

try a search as i remember someone else had the same problem and it turned out to be a sump bung washer that was with the new air filter

i bought my engine with the knackered turbo impeller being revealed afterwards. Bought a 2nd hand turbo in good condition for £25 on fleabay :) (still haven't actually fitted it though!)

Ok good look at the said washer and its not realy a washer. (Mark-d) Pics attached to first post. Its got to be from the air filter or something. The reason I know its not a washer is becouse the centre has a ridge and sharp as if its broken away from a locked position.

Cheers Matt TDi, I know I'm looking at a
Turbo change just got to track one down for the right money 25 quid sounds about right!!.

Thanks everyone,

Yet another well documented fault. Much needed when the Landy is a full time maintenace job!!.

If anyone spots a Turbo drop us a line.

Cheers.
