My 200tdi conversion has a flywheel housing with no hole for the flywheel timing pin.
Think it has the td one with plate on the rh side, the marks are just above this in the inspection hole, how are they properly aligned.
Looks like two lines with a 13 and 14 either side.
They are slightly off with pump pin in place, just line up both lines in the middle of the hole with the rest as normal, is this correct.

Belt is on and new one ready to fit.
Pump is locked, crank and camshaft on marks but lines in inspection hole are off, when flywheel pin is in place, how do the marks in the inspection hole line up. This is the one on rh side near the top or 2 o'clockish.

I would ignore the flywheel altogether as Im not sure if the tdi flywheel has degree marking in it? so its most likely the td flywheel.
Use the cast arrow in the timing chest 12 o,clock dead centre above the crankshaft, I did my series tdi conversion the same way.

^^^^ what he said. If it's locked and it all points to the correct markings then ignore the marks. Could try turning the crank over by hand and see if it all goes back to where it's showing at the minute. When I first did a 300 belt I climbed under the disco I had at the time and couldn't see the marking in the flywheel. Even tho it was locked. It only takes a slight amount of movement and the lines are just out of sight from the wading plug hole

Thanks for the replies, i was looking to get the precise setting but it looks like the standard marks are good enough and will get it running properly. Is it standard to use loctite on the shaft to help secure pulley, sure it had loads of the stuff on removal.

I always grease my crank bolts and the nose of the crank, tighten them and then put a paint mark on the bolt head and pulley so a quick glance tells you its all still good.

Today i learned that a 200 tdi comes in different formats.
The disco has a different timing belt cover than the Defender and the water pump is different as well. At least belt and pulley are the same, just need 2 more gaskets.
At least now i know.

Belt and tensioner pulley are the same BUT the disco has an extra idler pulley thats not in the kits!
