Hi all,

Just a quick question to the experts out there.... with a engine lift can you remove a 200tdi engine with the gear/tans box still attached from a defender? Reading the Hanes Manual noted that you have to unbolt the gear box to get the engine out.

Body on or off?
If the bulkhead etc is still in situ then you will struggle to get a good point of balance. If you look at the photos of when I moved my 300TDi c/w gear & transfer box a few weeks ago you will see how far back the straps go, I should imagine this is very difficult with the bulkhead etc in place. Possibly easier just to separate them?

Why would you want to do this.
Take the engine out, take the gearbox out and bolt them back together.
You now have the engine and gearbox as one.

I got mine to balance almost completely level, engine (200tdi defender), gearbox (LT77), and transfer box (lt230). I used a single lift point, but the defender was completely stripped.

There is a hell of a lot of weight with the engine and gear box together, you have a greater chance of coming away with all your fingers and limbs if you separate them prior to removal.
