Just checked it out looks pretty easy...his is a auto will the same mods be applicable for my Manuel

Will be interested to hear how you get on. I have always preferred to keep them standard as they were designed. But I always like to keep an open mind.
I recently had the cam belt changed. I have noticed a bit more power from the engine. My wife who rides as passenger has also noticed the increase in performance.

Do remember that mass produced engines of this period left the factory in a relatively low state of tune, simply because this was repeatable from one vehicle to the next.

the LR 200 and 300 engines will IME tolerate quite agressive tuning. The one thing that, IMHO you must do, is fit an Exhaust Gas Temperature Gauge. these are on the bay of fleas for about twenty odd quid upwards. There is lots of info on the web about this, from just about every country in the world. The Aussies seem to like doing this too....

Essentially, IIRC, the head will live quite happily up to about 700 centigrade...

please make sure that the rest of the system is in good order too!

Lol ahhhhh........do I really need the gas temp if I'm only just going to ever so gently tune her? I might get a turbo boot gauge tho for in the cab so I can see what that's at and for show haha I'm new to anything mechanical so I'm not that used to tuning and adjusting turbos and actuators etc...I can do simple stuff like change a heating matrix and diesel pump haha ( which I did do )

If It were me, and I've learnt the hard way seizing up 2-strokes at 3 figures, I would simply take all precautions possible, especially for £20. An engine usually runs at its best just before it spectacularly dies.

Also iv just looked at some on eBay 15-£20 but where would I install the probe?

And I can do that basicly any part of the pipe or do you think it should be the first half

Snap!! Hence my suggestion of EGT gauge.

MIne is fitted into the boss which came with the kit of fleabay, and the boss is tapped into the EGR blanking plate - "poked" thru into the exhaust flow.

Not my idea (!!), I "stole" it from this fella....:)

I also fitted a boost gauge, and a transmission oil temp gauge... worth every penny IMHO. YMMV

EGT gauge will be serious overkill on a 200 quite possibly one of the toughest land rover engines ever made, there cant be many if any that havent been tweaked?
Lets face it as std they are seriously lacking in power and need the tweaking!
Pedestrian is a good word to describe the acceleration:D

Lol true at that..well I'm sure mine is basic so I'll have to have a look at doing it myself on a weekend that I'll have to myself then I can do it properly with no rushing

May as well add my say... I've run a 200 Tdi powered RRC for over 10 years. It will happily run at 80, and will do 90 flat out (used to be 95... she is getting on a bit)
I don't now how the gearing compares to the 90, but they will go if you prod them hard enough !.... get the turbo spinning and keep it there when your in the hills !
As for TD5's my mate has one in a Disco.... and he has already had to do the heads at some expense.

As most have said, they are cheep and easy to repair, if you have the inclination.
I have followed the post on 'tweaking' the pump it's worth doing for a little more acceleration from low revs, but it won't make it that much faster.

Hope you get things sorted.

I think every point you make there is either absurd, wrong or both. But nice effort.. ;)
