I’m just getting my car ready for mot and noticed whilst it was idling that oil was running out of the beak grommet on the underside of my air filter box. Any ideas on the cause?
The turbo side is clear and that’s good.
I've replaced the cyclone breather and it didnt help, put breather pipe into a container instead of air filter box and had no issues with oil coming out of the breather.
Ran the car without air filter and had no issues.
Put air filter back in and the problem has reoccurred I can see a small amount of oil pooling around the exit of the cyclone breather when the hose is removed at that end but it’s not poring out.
It’s like the turbo is sucking it from the breather and through the pipe as it’s easier to do this than draw air through the filter.

Please help 😢

If the Air Filter is blocked the engine will draw air from the crankcase..
Usually you want to maintain negative pressure in the crankcase with the breather fed into the inlet manifold.
Of course if you have crankcase compression, worn rings, Blow by, etc, you will see engine oil
getting into the air cleaner.. Check engine breather pipes are clear.
You could have crankcase compression.

When did you put a new filter in last ?

A good service is called for me thinks, usual cyclone clear out too ...

It’s a new air filter. But without one fitted there is no issue. How do you diagnose crankcase compression?

Have you upped the boost at all, it sounds like the oil hasn't had time to spin out to the side walls of the cyclone ...

That’s really good
So good compression, turbo seems good no worn bearings or anything yet it seems the turbo is drawing through the breather instead of the air box when filter is installed. I did change the air filter to turbo hose as mine was a bit knackered. It wasn’t sucking flat but had seen better days. This one seems more rigid

Have you connected the breather/inlet pipes the correct way round? Did the problem exist before, noticed while changing or all happened after you changed things?

I don’t think they can be connected wrong. Problem didn’t exist before as far as I’m aware. All happened after using a different grade oil, oil and air filter change and replacing turbo to air box hose
