hi Ive gotta problem with my 200tdi when u put the headlights on u can only get high beam and not dipped beam

might be the wire in the switch gear in the stalk, just strip the left hand stalk off the steering column (2 minute job tops), strip the stalk base and check the 3 wires that are soldered from the switch. if it's broke it just needs resoldering.
unfortunately even when they work correctly you are better off using a candle or a torch to drive with:rolleyes:

Aint there a relay in the headlamps, sounds like it's fooked.

re the "use a candle" quote, I changed the bulbs to the Philips 50% or whatever it was and to be honest there is a definate improvement.

This can be done without upgrading the already tired electrics, in the past I have fitted relays and 80/100 watt bulbs but the ITV (MOT to you) here in Spain are really fussy about beam pattern and lamp alignment, it does not matter that the tyres are virtually bald, the brakes only work occassionaly, the steering wheel rotates nearly a full turn before the wheels actually respond but THE ALIGNMENT AND BEAM PATTERN HAS TO BE RIGHT SENOIR!!

Dave
