I've got a short deadline to get my 200tdi defender challenge truck ready,

It needs a new compressor wheel,

I'm working next door to Yorkshire landrover spairs but the don't have any 200 tdi turbos he doesn't think definitely no defender ones,

My question is can I use the impeller off a 300? If no is it the cold side housing that's wrong?

If the above could I fit the impeller and cold side of the turbo on the the hot side of my 200?

I'm reluctant to throw a lot of cash at it at the moment cause its new to me and want to make sure the engine is 100% before I start spending

I intend to pull apart a few turbos to measure the turbine and compressor wheels, get the A/R etc., don't know if anyone went so far to measure much less swapped wheels.

Question though, the turbine wheels and compressor wheels along with the wheel shaft has to be balanced. How do you intend to do swap out wheels and assemble the covers without balancing?

You can buy wheels balanced and if you haven't disturbed the rest of it I would gess it would be ok. I know about them been balanced but thought that was after a full rebuild.

If you change a wheel, the entire shaft with the two wheels must be rebalanced. If you got the whole cartridge ie., wheels on shaft already balanced, then it's easy to swap out the old with the new.

Even if the wheel you are buying is balanced, there is no reference on the remaining wheel and shaft as to where the opposing weights are, so it will be off balanced.

They really don't balance wheels alone either, they do the entire cartridge.

Ok thanks will have to have a re think like you other post I would like a vnt really
