Hi wondering if anyone can help me ive got 1989 defender 90 with 200tdi lump, so far everytime ive been off roading ive nakered my alternator i was wondering if ther was anything i could do or buy to raise the alternator up the top of the engine to keep it out of mud and water as much as possible?

hmm... on a disco 300tdi and i think 200tdi you can but a second alternator where the air con pump goes, there is a kit you can buy to do this.

May work for a 'fender too? not sure?

I dont know much about the 200tdi or indeed where exactly the alternator is located but could you use a 2nd alternator kit:

LIKE THIS

to move your original alternator up on top of the engine block and maybe get a local engineering shop to fabricate you a pulley to go where it used to?

Im currently looking into this on my TD5 but i have to think about the vac pump attached to my alternator.

Yours would be much easier i feel.

Good luck.

Don't think so, have you seen the size of a 24v alternator, it's about the size of a washing machine drum.

yes i have, its a regular size hence the bracket design......

you are thinking of the FFR generator which was never fitted to the tdi and wouldn't fit that bracket

however it can be made to fit but it takes a lot of fabrication and devilishly good looks.........
