200tdi & 300tdi

Can anyone please advise me what the difference in spec.is between these 200tdi & 300tdi - is it just year of manufacture? Is there an earlier thread on this?

Do all the later models have turbo, or was there a model made without?

A minor point - do any of the commercial Discos have manual wind up windows instead of electric?

Lights and interior mainly
i believe around 95 they changed
as for the engine not sure(over to someone else)

the early 200tdi were only available in 3 door and they were all blue!
about 1990/1 the 5 door was introduced.
the 300tdi came out in 1994 engine developed from the 200tdi. but it is different. interier and the lights/trim etc were changed.
abs was fitted and a new gearbox. automatic was available on the diesel too.

easieast way to tell the difference is the lights. 200 has square lights. 300 has bigger lights with a wedge off the corner. they al have a turbo, as in tdi(turbo diesel injection)
yes some commercial and some passenger vehicles have wind up windows

I've just looked at an R reg (Aug '97) Disco. It appears to have the 200tdi engine - It's a 3 door so I wondered if it was just a late registered 200tdi?

I thought the 300tdi had a different lump under the bonnet from the 200 tdi?
With a flatter Rocker/head cover etc?

Any help appreciated

1997 would/should definitely be a 300 TDi, you not getting confused with the TD5 flat top engine are you? the 300 and 200 look very similar.

From what I can gather, the 200 tdi has a raised oil filler cap and the dip stick is in a different position from the 300tdi?

Just a minor point, but I believe Tdi stands for Turbo DIRECT Injection, as opposed to DIESEL injection. As I understand, the shape of the combustion chamber was also refined within the 300 Tdi series, hence the slightly different engine sound (it's louder an more 'Pinky').
