Hi, I recently bought my 2008 3.6 TDV8 L320 and the engine management light came on as soon as I got home, I had someone do a free diagnostic test as I'm a key worker but now all I have is fault codes and no real idea of what could be causing the issue? Every now and then on start up, the car will shake, smoke and if you touch the throttle, it drops the revs... turn off and back on again and it runs perfectly. Also the suspension keeps releasing air and filling back up again constantly, makes me jump every time I get out the car because it sound like I've had a blow out. I can attach the diagnostic report if needed, many thanks for your time.

If you bought it from a dealer, take it back, vehicle not fit for purpose, they need to either fix it FOC or refund your money.
Unfortunately it was a private sale, sold as seen and the engine management light came on as soon as I got home. Typical really

I have the same model, it should drop air once you turn ignition off, usually about 10 secs after.
Does it refill every time you start the car? Also it sounds very loud to be normal to me, if I drop it down and back up again, the back rises first and not very smooth at all. The previous owner had a new compressor fitted as well

Yeah refills every time. Also if I’m sat in traffic for a while or waiting at lights it will drop air and then raise again once moving, this is normal. I’ve had a couple Range Rovers now, one vogue and now a sport, both have been a little creaky and lumpy while raising, get underneath and spray some lube in the joints ect, makes a difference. I also drop mine down to access height if it’s parked up for any length of time, give the bags a rest. If it’s raising at a reasonable spread and not showing a suspension fault I don’t think you have anything to worry about. It’s no spring chicken now, it will creak! ;-)

Dropping to access when parked might give the bags a rest, but it will wear out the pump quicker.

How recent is recent? Even in a private sale you have rights.

No rights in a private sale if "Sold as seen" unless there is obvious fraud.

Caveat emptor is the phrase ...

the principle that the buyer alone is responsible for checking the quality and suitability of goods before a purchase is made...

Thanks, it doesn't actually creak, it's just lumpy when it raises, the noise I was talking about is when it does release air, it's so loud it makes people jump 50 yards away, almost sounds like a bang, doesn't do it all the time but can happen 3-4 times within driving 100 yards

Not so sure about the smoking and shaking though!
I took it to my mechanic, he thinks it's a injector fault as cylinders 1,4 and 8 aren't dropping pressure quickly, will know more on Wednesday but in the meantime I need to get to work as I'm a key worker so will just have to cross my fingers and hope nothing goes bang haha

From my own experience if it's got 3 injectors iffy, stop running it. I ended up with a new engine because I didn't pick up on one injector fault quickly enough. My judder was hardly noticeable. I only felt it , very slightly, slowing and pulling away, but kept thinking I was imagining it.
The people who know the clever things will be able to tell you more, about what and why it wrecked an engine

Oh god, that's not good, I had this stuff put in my fuel and was told to give it a good blast, it's booked in for Wednesday but as of now I need to go to work and have no other transport

Not trying to scare you and there may be other things that factored in mine.
Can you not use public transport?

No I know haha but it's something to keep in mind, I can't use public transport as there's no buses where I work and I work nights, if it comes to it I may have to borrow a friends car if needed
