Hi

I am getting a 2005 SE and im pretty sure it doesnt come with the HK sound system upgrade.

I was thinking about getting a decent headunit for it, preferably a touch screen with sat nav and bluetooth.
Does anyone have any recommendations? Also what connectors/adapters/surround would i need.

Thanks

the adaptor said u can get in halfords

I personally like pioneer , if u happen to buy it from halfords they can sell u all the connectors required

if u have the steering wheel audio controls make sure the radio will be compatable

if u do a quick search there's some links for these boxes and cables etc

out of curiosity where abouts are u in the SE plse ,

Ok thanks but i was hoping to avoid Halfords and get one cheaper on the internet?
Can i just use any screen unit or do i need specific connections?

And Im in maidstone

Thanks

An 05 SE will use a multi CD head unit. It uses its own unique plug, but converters are available.
To fit a replacement HU, you will need a trim finisher panel as the HU isn't a standard size.
Use a decent make HU as a replacement. Cheap Chinese stuff is plagued with software glitches and reliability issues.

plus 1

my son got a LCD unit off line and couldn't even pronounce it, lol , he got a pioneer , really nice unit

always bought a pioneer if I'm honest

I think its best if I go to halfrauds and look at what they would supply for it, then see if i can source the parts online.

There's a new Poineer touch screen in there at the moment. It looks tasty enough for my to want one too. I don't think it takes CDs though, which is my preferred music medium.

Im also wanting something that can play dvds so i can put a small screen in the headrests
Presumably for entertaining the kids?
Buy yourself some standalone DVD players for the rear. That way you can still have music in the front. While the kids are happy in the back.
I've had the DVD HU and it was a pain. There's nothing worse than being in the front, listening to a file soundtrack. Obviously watching a film while driving is asking for trouble ;)

Ok just to update.
I got a 6.95" muti media headunit
2x dvd headrest screens & headphones
Reversing camera
Facia adapter
Wiring adapter for steering wheel stuff

All of this is a brand called Xtrons. Never heard of it personally but a Google search turned up some good reviews so im willing to give it a try. I figured if its all the same brand i won't get compatibility issues and it all came in at around £450.

I will post pics when/if i get it all done.

I'm sure I suggested not to buy cheap Chinese :/
My wife's E46 BMW came with and all singing, all dancing Xtrons HU. It was dreadful. It crashed constantly, kept forgetting that the steering wheel had controls and the built in nav never worked correctly. I took it out and binned it.
I really hope you're system is better than that.
I think that Halfords could have supplied you premium gear for that amount, that won't be plagued with problems.
Let us know how it goes.

Oh i thought you meant buying from chinese sellers on ebay or websites.

Well hopefully it will be ok as its not their cheapest HU.

I also made sure i bought from places with returns policies.
Fingers crossed its all ok and i dont need the trip to Halfords!

only reason I normally go Into halfords is so I can see and hear their radios

did have a Sony fitted in the landy and was rubbish , kept loosing radio reception , replaced it with a pioneer and the difference was huge

halfords fitted it all for me and also I had preordered the steering wheel control box and was all fitted at the same time

think it cost me a tenner for the whole installation and liked that if anything went wrong would be easy to take it down to them

must admit don't like buying something that I've never heard of, lol

years ago blaupunt was supposed to be the rolls Royce of radios ??

As much as I like my sounds I cringe at paying lots of money an a really good in vehicle stereo unit just to have some low life oxygen thief break in and steal it. I just purchased a nice little system from ebay, comes with steering wheel controls blu tooth and a rear view camera all for under £60. I will still be very upset if some creep steels it coz I'm a typical tight ass scotsman lol

agree and know what u mean , think mine was around 100 quid, Bluetooth so u can have ur phone calls through the speaker system

reminds me I must invest in a dash cam , was going along today , sat ,, there was a brand new looking mini in a junction , she nudged her nose out and I thought don't do it, she pulled right out in front of me , came into the middle of the road and stopped I blasted her with my horn after slamming on my brakes, was only doing 25-30mph , then my god she had one hell of a potty mouth , every time she swore I sounded the horn , thought she was going to explode, but if I had hit her, then her word against mine , would be so good to have a dashcam to at least prove blame

Christ I'm bloody gassing again ;)

Dash cam is my next purchase too, seen some nice ones on Ebay one type in particular clips over your rear view mirror and all for the great price of £19.99. I'm still researching which type is the best but after a few near misses myself I agree with you time to buy one
