I have owned this vehicle for twelve months, always serviced and maintained. It has now started to cut out as though out of fuel but only if driven continously for 50+ miles. If it is left for 30 mins it will then restart and will drive for close to the same mileage and cut out. These symptoms have been present on several commutes. I now stop at 45 miles for a half hour rest. I think it must be something that is warming up, as I have no problems on short journey's. Timing belt done, head gasket done and a full service.

Have you tried opening the fuel filler cap ? as a vacuum in the tank can cause this sort of problem.
Doesnt happen on short journeys because vacuum doesnt become strong enough on short trips.
Causes a Whooshing noise when the vacuum is released, stopping allows the condition to recover slowly.

this is what i'd check first. see if you get a whoosh of air when you open it.

then get a new cap, if that's how fls vent

When it cuts out. How does it behave? Is it that it misfires a little which gets worse. Does it die and cough a little. Does it suddenly stop?

When it has cut out on me I've been doing between 50 70 mph I have tried to bump it in every gear as I coast to a stop, nothing happens. If I try to restart as soon as I've stopped it turns over but won't fire, unless the 20 to 30 min wait is applied
