Freelander 1 2003 TD4 rubbing sound

Went out this morning turning nto a roundabout Heard a faint rubbing sqeak like tyre rubbing on offside front happens on left and right turns .
Got home took offside Wheel of nothing obvious all ball joints no play no movment in drive shaft and no signs of roadwheel rubbing on anything nothing caught behind backplate, totaly bamboozeled any suggestions greatfully excepted.

It's worth doing the one wheel up test first. If the VCU is stiff, the sound could be first sign of the IRD not happy. Next I'd lift the whole side and slowly turn the front wheel while listening for the sound.
 
All the belts are fine Grumpy, Brand new vcu and mounts new diff mounts drop links changed under 500klm ago Nodge
 
Dont quite know what happened there this should have been posted earlier than the above.

Mine had creaking noises when power was put down or lifted off. It turned out to be the driver's door rubber. Don't know how that might help here, but the door was the last place I was thinking my noise was coming from!

Would be interesting to see what time you get on the 1WUT with a 60K VCU.
 
I did WUT today as you proded my interest Grumpy.15 seconds for the 45 deg to horizontal this was after a 180klm trip at start vcu temp 15c at finish 18c.
Oh and by the way the rubbing has ceased all on its own
 
Also I asked the portugese mob that recondition the vcu how they got the correct ammount of fluid in. First they weigh the vcu then two holes drilled one taped so they can attach first an airline then a steam generator when cleaned and dried, bead Weld on one then refill till the same weight is acheived then seal the last hole , they reckon it only takes them a few hours start to finish. Wonder if Bell do it the same way.

I thought Bell cut and welded.
