Nodge68 - thanks, I have the old loom and have done a continuity check and it checks out, I think I am at the stage where it is try some parts, already ordered the sensor, will be either the loom or pump next

Iwan - no fault codes on mine or slow starting, just no fuel pressure. If the rail sensor doesn't work then I will look at the pump regulator. may get away with not having to fit a pump
I hope it's not the pump that needs replacing. Let me know how you get on after changing the sensor. Iwan.

Fuel pressure sensor is more likely to fail suddenly than the pump. Unless the pump drive has failed.
An HP pump generally gets a gradual pressure drop over many thousands of miles. Not a total failure when driving, unless some mechanical failure has occurred.

Spent the whole day on the car today.
Replaced the Fuel rail sensor and that still gave a reading of 0kpa.
Replaced the HP pump and managed to get the engine to run for 30 seconds, was a bit rough and wouldn't really rev. The it cut out again and will not start. Still showing 300kpa on the LP pump and 0kpa on the fuel rail
I think it may be poor electrical connection to the solenoid on the fuel pump. Is there a repair kit for the bit of cabling?

After much testing and fiddling I think in now have this fixed.

The solution was to replace the wiring loom to the fuel rail sensor.

It seems that despite all my testing of the loom showing that there was not a problem it was not connecting to the sensor properly.
Not sure if this is normal, but my icarsoft II until still shows 0kpa at the fuel rail until the engine starts

The high pressure fuel rail sensor wiring is known to be iffy. LR released a replacement loom for the sensor as an official modification. Lots of TD4s should have been fitted with the mod already.
It's logical that the HP rail pressure is 0 until the engine is cranked over, simply because the HP pump isn't turning until the engine as turning over on the starter.

Hi I have been having similar problems with my 2005 td4! Bought it about 9 weeks ago and had problems since! Started cutting out, rough starting, losing power and eventually would not start at all! Recently had new injector (no4), fuel filter air intake sensor, crankshaft sensor and new starter motor! Call AA out this week as it would not start at all, plugged in no faults found! Checked several mechanical parts in engine then touched wiring of fuel pressure regulator and started straight away. Been fine for several days now and last night started misfiring again.

I would suggest you fit the replacement wiring loom for the fuel rail sensor as the symptoms you describe indicate either the connector or wires to the connector are degrading.
