2003 Freelander TD4 Heated Windscreen

Hi all.
Yesterday I had a new Front Windscreen fitted by a recognised Windscreen Fitting Company and when he pulled the screen out of his van we saw it was a Heated Screen complete with wiring and plugs. My question is:- Can I plug this Heated screen in or does it need a Specialized person to do it?
My Freelander is a Serengeti which Did Not have a Heated screen so no Switch or Wiring. Is this a job a Novice can carry out?

Hi, as long as the wiring is there for the screen, a cavity in the fuse box for the relay & fuse (under dash or bonnet) & the wiring for the switch (you'll need to source relay/fuse & switch, (your owners manual will give you the location of the realy/fuse cavitys & switch position) there's no reason for it not to work. Like the rear heated screen, it'll on a timer but I'm not sure if the fr. & rr screens are controlled by the same unit or it's within the relay itself (without looking it up),but feel it should be be straightforward if all the above is there. @andyfreelandy will be able to give you the lowdown, best of luck as the fr. heated screens are great to have.

The HFS is controlled by the CCU, so it would need know one is fitted, so it can supply the power to trigger the relay, as it only works when the engine is running. However there are aftermarket HFS wiring kits available, which would be the easiest option to retrofit it.

And if you fancy a more DIY approach, then there's a relay that has a built-in timer for much less money, but you'll need to make up the rest of the system yourself.
