Hi all.
Can anyone answer me, have I been taken for a ride or not?????????
Today my LOCAL Landrover Experts!!!! have just charged me £305. for replacing the Fuel Pump and Filter with supposedly LR parts. The question is have I been overcharged??????? or is this a reasonable amount?????? I thought £200 would have been a rough estimate but maybe I"m wrong. I just wish I could do these things myself like I could 20 years ago but now in my early 80s I"m dependent on others and I"ve got no say in the matter. At the time I was angry, very angry but now I"ve cooled down I do realise that others have a living to make but not at my expense.
cheers all
Dave

Presumably it's the lift pump in the wheel arch at that price. Seems reasonable. A decent fuel pump would be around £200 to buy. You can get them as cheaply as £40 but I'd be pretty suspect of the quality at that price. If the garage has fitted genuine parts then it's about right.

Most decent garages will always give an estimate before works and inform you if that changes before carrying out the works. If they won't then go somewhere else !!

I guess it depends on where they got the LR pump from.
Advanced Factors sell an OE (LR pump but not in the expensive LR box) for £53, but the LR boxed version retails at about £175. Add another £35 for an LR boxed filter, and £90 for labour and the bill could quite easily be £300.
It's always best to get an estimate in writing before giving the go ahead, as that way you're prepared for the cost in advance.

I did the same job on my SE in 2018. I paid under £100 for OE parts, then spent an unpleasant hour changing the pump and filter in the rain.

Hi all,
Thanks for the replies. I suppose at the time I was bloody annoyed.but he went ahead and fitted what he said was a genuine LR part LR023043G PUMP OEM.
Cheers all.

A genuine LR pump will come with a 2 year warranty, so any issues in the next 2 years should be covered. ;)
