Is there a way of turning it off before exiting the car??? I am one of these folk who always turns everything electrical OFF in my cars before getting out and locking them up.

I have noticed the fan speed rotating dial on mine is a bit dicky in that i can only turn it down to speed 1 and no lower. It will increase in speed fine and back down again albeit after a few turns so i suspect it has a issue albeit is still working.

I was just wondering if this being on speed 1 all the time it could be part of the battery drain over night problem i think i have?? and are they prone to playing up??

Cheers in advance. Brendan ( Swindon )

this is normal, there is no 'off'

That’s interesting, I can turn mine off by turning the dial all the way to the left. That having been said, the spares truck you can’t, 1 is as low as it goes. Perhaps it depends on the HEVAC unit installed. The one you can turn off has heated seats and screen, the one you can’t doesn’t.

how do you know you have a drain? is the battery healthy and are you sure?
I was just wondering and the dealer who sold me the car said he fitted a brand new battery which after 1 week went duff on me. I have fitted a new battery and connected my C-Tek to it to keep it fully charged. Yesterday i disconnected it to start up and after playing around with the car for about 15 mins i noticed the C-Tek cable change from green status to amber so i started the car up and it changed to green again.
I have put my avo metre on it and the battery is kicking out well over 13 volts and more when the engine is running so i sort of tells me that the system is ok and charging. Obviously the car is not being run properly at the moment due to this rough running issue i have so no proper alternating charge being pumped in as yet so maybe its just me or a minor gremlin. Again P38 ownership is all new to me still albeit i am learning fast. LOL.

May be i am just reading too much in to things on here and other sites which give alot of info regarding these vehicles. The only way i suppose to know for sure if i do have an overnight battery drain is to unplug the C-Tek and see what it shows next morning.

the alternator should ideally be putting out over 14 volts to keep a modern battery healthy, alternators that havent been upgraded will push out a max of 13.8 which isn't enough. a new battery should read 12.7-12.8v with the engine off, ideally check it after an hour of sitting

have you started a thread about the rough running?

Marty does refurb kits and in the Technical Section he's done a post woth all the different types fitted. The dial acting up seems to be common although mine's always been fine - probably because I never touch it.

Sounds like you need to change the voltage regulator for one with a 14.7 set point. Simple job ,try thr search option the answer is there.;)

As each battery cell is 2.2 volts after standing a while after charge or switching engine off standing charge reading should be 12.6 volts.;)

But...But...But... that would mean a 12Volt battery was really 13.2Volts. It's a scandal, someone should say something....Oh.
