2002 freelander wont start

I've tested the connection with a bulb and it doesn't light up. I guess this means that there's a problem with the wires/electric somewhere. Any ideas as what to do next?

You did have ign switched on?
Next thing I would do is run a wire from battery positive to pump and see if it runs if it does then trace fault in wiring if not new pump then trace wiring fault
And make sure its earthed as well!

Test the fuel pump relay before delving deaper, and make sure the fuel cut off sensor hasn't been tripped.

I had the ign switched on. A friend came with a multimeter. And says there is no power going to the pump. But he does not know why. So the problem must be with the wiring I think. But I don't know what to do next. Thanks for you help.

I don't know much about fixing cars. Where is the relay? And where is the fuel cut off sensor? Thanks for your help.

I'm not a freelander owner so cant help with relay etc....someone will be along soon to tell you....do a visual check on wires as far as you can to rule out chaffed wire etc follow the colours back to fuse box

Thanks for your help. I was told that the diesel model doesn't have a relay but I don't know. I've looked at the wires as far as I can and it looks fine. But I can't see it for very far. They go inside somewhere.

It has an electric fuel pump, well 2 actually. So it has a relay for it. It's in the engine bay fuse box and it's marked as far as I remember.
The fuel cut of sensor is under the fuse box at the back of the engine bay.

I've tried everything I can and still no joy. Had a Mechanic look at it for hours today. And he said it has no mechanical problems and that the problem is in the main computer. It needs a diagnostic tests. Is this possible to do myself with an obd11 and an app?

Have you checked the crank senser im assuming the freelander diesel has one ...some times if dirty gives intermitten starting problems it gives info to ecu on cranking ...just a thought...our fiat seicento run around car we bought for work an engine mount bolt fell out engine tipped forward and trapped sensor cable and chafed through took me a day to realise engine was not where it should be and had trapped and earthed cable cause it would start and run every now and then

A generic OBD2 reader won't read the EDC (ECU). You'll need a LR specific code reader for a 2002 TD4. If the rear fuel pump isn't running, then you know what circuits to check. The relay is No 1 in the engine bay fuse box. Also check blade fuse No 10 which feeds the fuel pump.
