Hi All,
Firstly I am new to this but I have read all articles relating to the above. My 2001 P38 backfires on petrol and gas. New HT leads and Bosch MAF sensor have not resolved the issue. My question is simple - does anyone know of a knowledgeable person / garage in the Biggleswade, Bedfordshire area I can go to? Local garages don't have the knowledge and are guessing. I have been in contact with LR specialists in Bedford and Sawtry, but the customer service means I won't take my car there, for now!!. That's another story though!
Any assistance would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Clive

p.s. My knowledge of mechanics can be written on a post-it note!! So I really do need someone to look at it for me. Thanks. Clive 07770632290

I bet they pleasent with you testing a 4.6 :) but seriously thanks for that> I'll give them a call. Thanks.

My old P38 did this and it turned out to be a porous / cracked block which was an issue with the P38. It was a known fault and unfortunately expensive to resolve-new block. What would happen is the fuel would build up in the cracks etc and when enough had built up it would ignite and hence the back fire, it actually trashed the air intake it was so violent.
