The only thing i can see you are all missing is the fact that the engine is actually running on its own oil, ( if the turbo seals die ) thats the reason it wont stop on the ignition !!!
so disconnecting the battery or the fuel will do nothing - the only thing that will work in this instance is to stall if its a manual or like already stated block the air to the engine, had this happen on an astravan - very scary experience i must say lol i have never seen so much smoke come out of a car before !
