Hi
Having spent days trying to source a 200TDi defender engine to go into my 110 Csw, I found an ex MOD 90 today with a 300TDi engine in it and thinking about getting that and flogging my 110 without an engine .

However, was just about to offer when I was told horror stories about oil problems with the 300Tdi engine. I've done a bit of net research but can't find anything conclusive.

Can anyone give me some advice on pro's and con's on the 300TDi and whether I should avoid it or if this is a viable engine.
Having had one engine (2.5TD) go pop in the last two months I really don't want to go through all that again .

thanks

If you are anywhere near Stafford, Jenkinsons Scrap yard has a 200Tdi in stock - tried buying just the alternator this morning but they won't break it so its complete.:)

Dunno - only wanted the Alternator - engine is OK. Orkney and you own a landy? You need to live less than 10 miles from Craddocks - I'm a regular!

Best Diesel engine to ever come out of solihull!

Proberly the best engine actually, I am a V8 fan too though.

Easily tuneable, powerful (for a landrover), simple to fix and maintain and of course reliable.

Keep it serviced regulary and i'll doubt you have many, if any probs.

My opinions of course

Thanks for this. I have bought an ex MOD 90 with a 300TDi transplant.. She is FANTASTIC and has so many hidden old MOD features I just didn;t appreciate were there when I purchased her.
SO.. anyone want to buy a 110CSW that needs an engine transplant:)

the 300 tdi engine in my disco has covered 156,000 miles still gives a top end of 95+ and returns 30mpg lovely lump to have barry

same power and torque, but injection preassure is marginaly higher in the 300 and makes it run slightly smoother via a bit of witch craft. ...both very good motors !

buy the 300 if you can...if you can only settle for a 200 ...its hardly any different so dont worrie :)

 Hippy:cool:

Had my 300TDi for about 6 months - my first landy so I'm probably not qualified to comment ito pro's and con's. Having said that, I wouldn't change it for anything - they don't leak oil, they are just marking territory. Another plus is that on purchasing a Defender (here in SA), all other Defender owners become your friends, it's a great feeling!!
