I’ve done it! The problem was that part of the old inner bearing that had disintegrated was left on the stub axle. In my naivety I thought it should be there. Anyway, once I had removed that, which was incredibly difficult as it must have been super heated as the bearing broke and necessitated taking off the stub axle, everything went together well. The inner seal seated ok once I had cleaned and emery clothed the area, too. I’ve learnt a lot and feel confident to tackle the other side which, as the bearings haven’t yet disintegrated, should be easier! Thank you for all your help and giving me the confidence to carry on.
