Hi changed my thermostat a few weeks ago and since then the temp guage sits just on the edge of the white zone and the heaters pump out loads of heat.
It never goes into the red and water is circulating around the system
So presume alls ok.
The stat i took out had failed and the new one is the same temp setting 88 deg C and also flushed and refilled system
Anyone else had this happen on there tdi 200

You fixed it. Want a badge?

Silly storm, not a badge:rolleyes::rolleyes:, OBE or MBE or Knighthood at least.

Hi no its a standard 200tdi 90 the needle was sitting in the middle of the white before and heater was luke warm.as i said it does not gett any hotter once upto temp am rtv this weekend so will see how it goes

Hi to be honest i could not give a toss to you opinion as looking at your post history all you try and do is wind people up.another key board warrior

I have the same engine in a 1994 disco, and yes it runs allot cooler than you would expect, family members always complain about the heater.

Mine sits just below the red when upto temp and my heaters are ****e. Is it worth a thermostat change? I know **** all automotive!

guages arent accurate ,often its the differing from normal alerts you to an issue , ensure system is completely full get it to running temp and feel all hoses and all over rad etc, both heater pipes should be hot ,ensure heater cable works fully , if both pipes arent it indicates air lock ,blockage in the marix or low coolant , top hose will stay cold till thermostat opens ,so a slightly warm top hose can indicate thermostat stuck partially open , an adjustable rad muff is useful in cold weather to reduce rad cooling , thermostats often stick slightly open its worth checking and testing new one before fitting

Thermostat cuts the radiator out of the cooling circuit not the heater matrix. If your temp guage is accurate then you might need a new stat but your heater is probably ****e because the matrix is full of gunk or you have an air lock.

Disconnect it, back flush it, reconnect it and follow the correct bleed proceedure

I had exactly that issue with my Defender (200tdi) a tepid heater, I changed the thermostat (old one stuck open) and now it's transformed to a heater worth having.

I had a knock on issue though, straight after the water pump started to leak, I put this down to the increase in pressure in the system, I replaced that and now everything is FAB.

what end of the white zone? close to the red or cold end?

I thought my temp guage was broken, as since I had it, you can drive any distance and it barely moves off the stop, then last week we hitched 3+ tonnes to the back and booted it up a rather steep hill, so steep it could only be done in first gear as my low box doesnt work, and eventually I noticed the temp guage was just creeping up to halfway, with a radiator muff in place. remove the muff and within a few miles it drops back almost to the stop again.

A mate who has a S2 with a 200tdi conversion says he can drive 30 odd miles, remove the cap from the expansion tank and still put his fingers in the nearly lukewarm water.

over last winter i blocked 90% of my disco rad to get it to run at a decent temp, get a thermal probe on the stat housing and see what it reads to be accurate,

cheers steve

good info. My truck runs just at the bottom of the red, but right now the Heater core is not plumbed into the loop. I am curious to see what the temp does once the heater is in.
