Hi All,

I'm thinking of doing a 200 tdi conversion to my series 3. Currently it's Perkins 4.203 powered but I'm getting a bit tired of being deafened each time I drive it.
I may purchase a rusted out discovery and remove the engine from that. Sell some parts and scrap the bodyshell to recover some of my costs. Rebuild the engine over summer and fit over winter.
My question is that I've seen a few tdi autos. Can these still be used to match up to a series 3 box or is something different?
I take it the tdi will be a bit more civilised than the perkins? I'll be fitting the tdi minus turbo. So I guess a di conversion.

I'm not sure If I need to find some series engine mounts. I don't know if my perkins is suspended on series mounts or not. I don't know what they look like.
Sorry I'm very new to the leafer scene.

Hi the perkins engine mounts are further forward than the landy one's you would have to cut them off and re weld them to suit the landy engine, might be interested in your perkins engine is it a good runner, let me know

Hi Peter,
Ok I don't mind cutting the mounts and moving. Yes the engine is good. Runs very well. Almost a shame to remove it.
I will be selling it once removed but this may not be for a while. You can have 1st refusal if you want.
The only thing I would say is that I'm only saying it's a 4.203 from what the previous owner told me. I've had a hard time identifying the exact model.
Are there any external differences between the 4.203 and the 4.236?

Actually got a couple of pictures of it here when I was doing my rebuild

Tdi autos have a different flywheel housing and flywheel but this is only a bolt on jobby, yes you will need the series engine mount brackets, they are a straight bolt on fit to the tdi engine.
Transforms the car
