there done with proper honing machine where cross hatch can be set,if bores on tdis or red blocks,v8s need glaze busting they are better bored and honed to size ,in my experience maching blocks and rebuilding engines no long term success was achieved with glaze busters or drill driven stones,on any ive seen or previous machinist had done and it was at least 50 all smoked ,and used lots of oil even though bores looked alright, and all where cured by reboring and honing at least 1 thou proper angled crosshatch so yes a waste of effort

I've rebuilt hundreds of engines in 38 years of being a commercial vehicle mechanic and never had a problem with glaze busting.

There have been a few engines that a customer has insisted were re-ringed without re-boring first but I always check for excessive bore ovality and some engine I've just refused to rebuild.

ive not that much experience with commercial vehicles but have done alot of lr engines, including reboring ,fitting liners and boring and honing to size ,boring v8s to take different liners, machining heads etc , ive experimented myself and seen alot that have had to be done propely after it dont work well on landy engines

Did you check your timing gear properly? You could very easily have had a worn keyway or a loose woodruff key on the crank or the cam.
The timing gear is perfect, several experts have checked this engine over with me and we are stumped.

just happened all of a sudden so suspected head gasket or fuel problem but neither.:)

Dreading all of this.... my 300 head needs to come off for an inspection I reckon. Local garage is going to test coolant and oil and if it comes back as not clear..... runs away and cries!

It sounds to me like a valve stem seal is leaking oil in to a cylinder when the engine is off... Then when it is started again it's burning it, then when revved burns it all and runs clear.

Does it miss after you have revved it? Have you had new injectors in?

Changed injectors for tested ones and no different.

I'll have a look at the head when I get time. meanwhile put another 200 in but having trouble with that:doh:
Turbo not good so putting 300 one on as its new.:)

At least you have all those engines lying arround to make a good en (fingers crossed!), I'd be fecked!

Found the problem regarding the smoking engine.

Head gasket gone (slightly) between 1 and 2 ,, also between 3 and Compressions were fine and gasket looked ok but head refurb man spotted it straight away.
