Hi Guys,

P38 95 DT manual.

When I bought the car I was told the central locking only worked on the key and new batteries had been tried. But I do not know if syncronisaion was tried. Having searched and read various threads I am wondering whether to try syncronising the key or just leave well alone. I have had the negative lead of the battery twice for jobs and the battery has gone flat once but have since disconnected the RF ariel. As a 95 car assume it is a case of hold lock button and turn anticlockwise to lock then centre then hold unlock and turn clockwise. So to leave alone or give it a try?

Secondly rather rashly bought a second hand PSI powerbox but now feel nervious about fitting it in case of long term damage to the engine such as blowing the head gasket. Therefore second consideration is whether to fit or not?

Thoughts and comments greatfully recieved.

Thanks in advance.

syncronisaion wont hurt anything, as the key unlocks. I have a 97 p38 where i press lock on the keyfob then put key in lock and lock the door take key out then press unlock on the keyfob and all works fine, this was after removing the earth lead same as you too. :)

Secondhand Powerbox won't hurt your engine but it may not work, a lot of secondhand stuf is sold because it's duff.

hi Guys,

Well I think I will give the PSi box ago will let you know thought MikeVTS... Tried syncronising the key: hold button and turn to lock, return then hold other button and turn to unlock. No difference, the buttons do not work the central locking. the LED does come on the key fob. oh well.

sounds daft but have you checked all fusess, its probrably not that but its worth a try or is it the dreaded Becm problem...:eek:

Someone could have removed the antenna wire from the receiver due to alarm problems. Have you tried using the remote right up against the right rear window? If it works there, that's what it'll be. The receiver itself could be u/s as well. If you have to get another one, only get a genuine new one from Landrover as the one's on ebay will probably be the old type that people have removed / changed due to problems with interference continually waking up the BeCM.

Cheers Guys, I removed the wire from the reciever ariel after a flat battery after not using the car for 2-3 days. Stuck with three wireless networks and a we have a wireless door bell. Have tried the key fob by the rear RHS window still no luck. Checked no9 fuse and seemed OK, also swapped the wiper relay for the locking relay and no difference to either. Considering the deal on ebay to have the keyfob rebuilt for £44?

Will consider pondering the situation. Worth taking it to the stealer for hook up to the diagnostics?

PSI Powerbox is great. My 2.5DSE has done 20,000kms (now at 280,000kms) with it so far and it is great with more power and same economy - best investment yet!
