I'm going to have the chassis steam cleaned and painted and the garage that can do this only have a 2 post lift.
I'm just worried about the axles dropping and possibly damaging the air suspension / sensors.
Will it be ok?

Land rover do not recommend a two post lift for Range rovers. But not because of the wheels hanging. If the shocks are good the axles cannot drop far enough to do any damage. It is more a safety issue due to the weight of the vehicle slipping off the lift points.
 
Is that a good idea? My chassis appears to be coated in something like underseal (no, it isn't ALL mud) and I think might be galvanised too. I assumed they all were. Won't that risk taking it off?

I wouldn't want steam near my height sensors either!
 
Who is this garage that is prepared to steam clean a Land Rover product? Nobody round here will do it.
 
I'm afraid You're living in a dream world, if only all LR's were !!!! :D

I know the Defenders aren't as that was the death of the last one: chassis collapsed into brown powder, shortly before the roll and the fire ...

The classic is infamous for rust.

I thought the P38 was the most rust-proof one they made though?
 
When they do the underside make sure they don't spray any goo near the a/c drains or gearbox cabling .....

Or any other electrical connectors that might suffer from the stuff.

Does it really need steam cleaning????

And seriously, it's an off roader, likely to see maximum suspension flex. I doubt very much Land Rover would have designed it, so that is damaged the air suspension when the wheel drops to it's maximum travel.

Galvanised - nope. No LR product ever has been. And if it was, galv won't come off from being on a 2 poster lift, nor being steam cleaned.

Wasn't worried about the zinc coming off, it was the underseal I was worried about! :)

I'd be more worried about steam messing up something electrical under there. It is going to get dirty again immediately anyway. Maybe he is planning on redoing the underseal though?

If the underseal comes off, then it isn't properly 'attached' anymore which will, in all likelihood, actually cause rust as moisture gets caught under the it. Getting rid of any damaged underseal and replacing it is a good thing.
