I bought my Defender with +2 inch suspension lift on it. It has none of the mods to suit the lift and im not keen on it anyways. However I had to replace the front shocks so they are nearly new. Could I buy Standard HD Springs and run them ok with the +2 shocks? Im thinking the answer is yes, but I want to check!

Thanks!

Yes IF your bump stops are intact. the plus two will not compress as much when the axle is lifted. Luckily LR built in 50mm or so tolerance so if the bump stop fell off the shocks didn't top out. Now you have 50mmmm longer shocks you are close to topping out when compressed but will be fine if your bump stop is fitted. You will also gain 2 inch more droop at its attachment point which equates to more at the tyre. You may will find the spring being HD will pop out of its seat. use jubilee clips x3 or 4 per side around the mount to keep it in place (in such a way not to compress the spring when tightening the jubilee clips) You wont they will break but will save you doing it twice.

What springs are you after?? Soft offroad hard road and towing?? What kind??

You pay a lot for unknown shiny blue or yellow ones but you can work out what you want and they are £20 ea

Well work out what you have lbs per inch now. Offroad slow softer the better road and fast road stiffer.

If you go HD springs and don't carry the weight you will lift wheels sooner and you can get stuck. If you go soft too soft road handling can be awful and if they're too soft you will be banging your bump stops all the time.

I used to run Range Rover classic HD rears all round softer than defender 175lbs inch taller by 3 inches but gives approx a 2 inch lift ish. I still run them on the front with a winch. But the tears were too soft for carrying tools so I have stronger rear springs but will go stronger again now my 90 is retiring from competing trials and now carrying the tools roof tent all that guff for the off-roader.
