There's a 2.7 diesel on ebay with a snapped timing chain.

If I bid on it, what would my options be in relation to the engine?

Is there any clearance, or would the top end now resemble Ken Dodds teeth?

Replacement... would i have to buy a like for like engine, or could I get a 3 litre engine for example?

Thanks in advance for all your sarcasm!

On the 2.7 tdv6 you buy a jag as a doner, if the timing chain has gone i would say scrap that engine and swap but unless the car is at give away scrap money it could end up being very expensive to put right.

I think it's 4 or 5 hundred quid so kinda worth a punt

Hi @Mongo

Plus 1 what others have said , great to do a project , assume ur be able to do all the work urself

engine will be toast , many buy a jag S class so can hear the engine running etc and use that , However have to consider what the rest of its like ie, suspension / wishbones / brakes , EPB, etc, along with the expensive dynamic anti roll bar system

At the end of the day personally would look on the D3 forum, there’s always a D3 coming up for sale , plus know they’ve been looked after

If u do wish to get a project and not wishing to try and teach u how to suck eggs, be extremely careful as they can turn onto money pits , ur also need good diagnostics

As mentioned the D4 uses a different canbus speed to the D3

hooe that also helps

Think this is it, timing belt snapped , being a 2007 bet it still had the old oil pump, Mileage: 158700 mi

so indeed at that mileage , Run away

Oh wow, just saw another one , talk about them telling a massive lie, plus the outrageous asking price

quote

“ Very easy repair for someone that’s capable, basically just needs turbo actuator - can buy for £200-300 from eBay or breakers “
______________

Alas can’t just change the actuator without taking the turbo off as it needs to be calibrated by a specialist , can get the turbo off without removing the body but is an utter nightmare

Who ever buys that is going to get a big surprise , then if it’s too much they could end up with a good 4k repair bill

Couple of people on d3 forum have bought recon cyl heads and repaired the engine.
Are you sure its timing chain failure and not cambelt failure?

hiya

indeed says in the advert timing belts snapped not the chain , plus being a 2007 what’s the betting that the oil pump corner snapped off

Ah well shes scrap then.

indeed , plus can’t beluve how much that other advert seller is asking for , 3k and the laughable quotation regarding the turbo actuator

some poor soul is going to get a big shock , particularly if there not able to do the work themselves, think the upper wishbone, near side exhaust section etc etc have to come off to gain access
