Hi All, Good to see such an active and useful forum!

I've had my Freelander for a year now and is a luxury after years of driving my old VW Camper. I've had some of the usual probs such as the three lights on the dash, gasket, fuel leak... and today on my way back from work, the belt serving the power steering has gone.

My question is.. Do you know if the belt also serves the alternator. I ask as the battery light came on. I drove the 15 miles or so home and apart from having steering alike my old camper, it seemed Ok.

I would need to drive 60 miles for work tomorrow and wonder if I'm likely to do any damage..??

The auxilary belt drives the power steering, air con and alternator. There's a tensioner to keep it tight. If the belts gone you int charging your battery. Get a new belt fitted.

Thanks for the reply, I was cautious this morning and took my wifes car. She broke down with a flat battery.. ooops!
