My Pain in the ass car is over heating, when i check my engine expansion tank its empty so fill it up, start driving few miles later steam coming out from under my bonnet look expnasion tank too full , so let car cool down go to empty out damn tank empty.
water is going through engine, the fan is running as it should, but damn thing still keeps over heating. There is no leaks.
i have no idea what is wrong b/f checked thermostat it seems fine. anyone any ideas coz im beginning to regret buying this damn car, it doesnt just break like a normal car it has to do confusing stuff like this.

Whats the engine oil like? Does the heater get hot?

Do we think they need to bleed the system of air?

Just trying ta help a fellow v6 sufferer. But ah dun't know whats up wiff it.

Water level going up/down when hot/cold. Steam would make yer fink it was a leak. HGF possible? Slipped liners? Heater matrix?

My Pain in the ass car is over heating, when i check my engine expansion tank its empty (Water has seeped into engine block usually thru a damaged head gasket )so fill it up, start driving few miles later steam coming out from under my bonnet look expnasion tank too full , (water has gone back into your surge tank from the combustion pressure from engine) so let car cool down go to empty out damn tank empty.
water is going through engine, (Water/coolant will still circulate) the fan is running as it should, but damn thing still keeps over heating. There is no leaks. (Coolant system is pressurised and sealed,so won't show up as a leak)
i have no idea what is wrong b/f checked thermostat it seems fine. (Your b/f aint a mechanic, it's way over his head! - don't let him touch it!) anyone any ideas coz im beginning to regret buying this damn car, it doesnt just break like a normal car it has to do confusing stuff like this.

[above in red is an explaination, however it may NOT be the problem!! ...... more that likely it is tho]

If yer use the microcat parts system yer should be able ta put yer vin number in, and it will tell you the part number which relate to yer Freelander. Do you know if it's been imported?

apparently some v6 engines where build for the american market then put into british cars so messes with things a bit, the american part fits so now i know,

checked car over water in the oil, the oil a light brown colour aswell so told most likely head gasket failure. guess im off the road for a while.

ok so update, my freelander is dead, head gasket failed and the water liners had sunk told need new engine then have to pay for LPG system to be re connected to new engine, all in £2000 worth of parts and work, so car found a home wih someone who wanted to fix it. will find another car but not a petrol freelander. learned my lesson on that one.
thnx for all the help.
