Hiya just popped over from the Series side of things.

Have just put an 2.5 NA into my series 3.

Couple of questions

Can anyone explain or show me a wiring diagram of the glow plug wiring please, as its different to the series..

Also, what is the correct way to bleed the diesel system? Yes I have wired up the leccy solenoid on the pump, but there seems to be a diesel airlock that I cant get rid of..

dont know the exact order of bleeding but start at the fuel filter, IP, then injectors 4 back to 1... i think.

the glow plugs are wired from one to another... if that makes sense. cant remember whats series/parallel! kind of on a harness thing which connects to one wire which runs... somewhere.

Glowplugs no.............

Old system went from some sort of ballest box?? on the bulkhead, to each plug, BUT each wire on the plug was kept apart by some sort of ceramic washer, after the last plug (No 1) a wire went to earth. On the 2.5 there is no earth wire, I wired No 4 to the ballast box, but nothing, if i earth No 1 it blows a fuse??????
 
Straight 12v in to these glows, stick it on a good high current relay and get rid of any ballast. Then they all just have links between them, 1 - 2 2 - 3 3 - 4 and the line in goes onto the terminal of a glow near the middle (so link lines are not taking full current at one end).
 
Can't realy weigh up the Haynes wiring diagram. There are three diagrams , 10J,12J and all models from 1986-91 It might be better if someone can scan and email them rather than try to describe them.

Cheers for the offer of the Haynes, might have to take you up on em...

Engine came from a series 3 near Matlock, was ripped out and pipes/wires cut, all in now, just fine tuning.....

Oh dear... if it had been from a SIII in Clay Cross I'd have been able to help, but Matlock? Sorry - way out of my depth there ;)

Forgot to mention the manuals I've got are deepender ones - fairly sure the 2.5 n/a in the series was common to both series and earlier deependers though so I doubt the wiring is much different.

How're you getting on with it?
 
I think the 2.5 only went in the early defender/county, and was not fitted to the series, but it seems to be the same block and head, so poss cound be a rebored/cranked 2.1/4, dunno the history of em and how LR modified em etc.

Engine all in, new rad coming this week, so Easter weekend should see her moving under her own steam again......

Fired her up tonight, with an old rad, so she had water, started OK, but there is a fuel starvation prob that needs sorting. Hoping for an early finish tomoz...
