Hi all,

My 2.5 NA won’t start after changing the injection pump (due to the old one leaking). I’ve set the timing (95% sure I’ve done this correct, used the correct timing pins, marks bang on the arrows etc.), bled the pump, bled the injection pipes, fuel is squirting out the injection lines.

When I try to start it, I preheat for around 30 seconds, then after about 15-20 seconds of turning over, it starts to splutter a bit and then sounds like it’s running on two cylinders. Dies immediately after disengaging the starter. It started beautifully before the work. Other slight thing, is that it’s leaking from the injector bodies (definitely not the seals, from the actual body), which it was doing a little bit before, but seems to be worse now.

Am I missing anything? I’ve realigned the timing about 5 times now (every time, it’s lined up bang on). I’ve also tried rotating the pump both directions. It’s starting to make me pull my hair out! Please someone tell me I missed a really obvious thing!

Admittedly not a Land Rover, but when I was struggling to start a van after a top end rebuild, despite following all the injector bleeding ritual, I tow started it a short distance and it cracked up no problem. Could be worth a try if you have a mate handy with another Land Rover.

When you changed the pump did you also replace the linkage that connects the throttle cable to the throttle spindle in the pump?
