2.5 N/A Still showing as overheating???

OK, changed the sender for the OE S3 one, was better, now takes twice as long to go up into the red ???? Also sorted the timing as best I can.

BUT it is still going up into the red, this is at speed, pottering along arond town and side roads stays normal, D/Cways at 50 + and up it goes, esp on a long gentle slope...

Any more ideas?

Although showing as up in the red, its not boiling over, bubbling etc, so it seems OK, all this and still no thermostst in.

Does your heater work well? Have you flushed your radiator, heater matrix and engine block through?

Is it the standard S3 radiator or the heavy duty three core one?

Its a standard one, but warm/hot at the top, cooler lower down, as it should be...

You think the 2.5 is too big for the rad??

FIT A THERMOSTAT!

The system is not controlled as designed unless a working thermostat is fitted.
Interestingly, many engines will OVERHEAT without a thermostat.

Make sure the stat you fit is exactly the right TYPE, and perhaps best an 82 degree one.

Fior winter use when you are confident it is working, chage it to 88 degrees so the heater runs hotter.

Fitted a new thermostat last night 82 degree one...

On way into work this morning I am above the red!! But no bubbling, steaming etc....

In desperation I went into Halfords and bought a new temp gauge, you know the dial one that shows the temp, fitted it all in, took her for a drive, pushed her hard, well as hard as she will go

Temp showed she never went above 75, nearly pushed 80 on a long climb....

So I guess either the senders were shagged or the gauge in the car was shagged, but fingers crossed it seems OK..

What do reckon Charles, sorted??

I think that is BRILLIANT!!!

Well done. Your landy temp sender / gauge / or dash voltage regulator is goosed.

I think you should pull the wire off the sender and tape it over.
Don't look at the landy temp gauge any more - look at the new one!

So the whole job has cost you a bit of time, a temp gauge, and a few LandyZone messages.
Worth it at half the price!

Ahem.....

Still using the orig wiring, hence my thoughts are that the sender or gauge are goosed, old sender and gauge are now dead, long live dials.......
