2.5 DSE auto Transmission not changing gears

we bought a 1995 P38 of an auction site. OK we took a risk. Niece car.
When we got it back there was lirrlew transmission Fluid. and gearbox fault on dash along with several fuse failures.

It drove in one gear only. we filled 4 lts of fluid into it and the torque converter seems fine but only one fwd gear and reverse. The electrical box by the seat seems rusty. I understand the box is electronically controlled. Anybody had similar or can give advice before we get too far involved. Any help much apreciated.

What is "lirrlew"? Have you tried manually selecting gears? The auto box is electronically controlled. If the BECM under the seat is rusty, could be the car has been flooded which = trouble.
You ought to introduce yourself and put a rough location then someone nearby may be able to help.:welcome2:

Thanks for reply.
I'm an engineer, assorted disciplines and I'm helping out a confused friend, who shouldn't get involved with anything technical, niece guy and all that, I expect you know the type. Sorry about typo, should read "little".
No it doesn't change gear maually either. I haven't seen the fuse box there are several blown fuses apparently. and generaly coroded.

I'm Eddy and live in Poole dorset, the car came from Scotland as a cat d write off, ie dented rear wing. It came via a co called Blue Cycle.

Best bet is sort the electrical probs, download RAVE which is the full workshop manual, that should give you the info you need.

hi Datatek

thanks for reply again. yes it sounds like it's been flooded, not surprisingly coming from scotland. Not t he end of the world, could buy a used fuse box with all the relays and stuff with wiring loom tails and just stich it in.

Manual from Rave, could you be more specific?

If it has been flooded would you know if there are any exposed electronics or relays on the Transmission. also as it won't change gear manually either could this also be electrical fault or internal to box?

The BECM is under the drivers seat, not sure but I think the auto ECU is under the passenger seat along with the EAS ECU. There is a switch mechanism on the transmision that produces a binary code to signal the ECU the gear lever position.
For RAVE, do a search or try Greenoval downloads or you can buy a CD on Ebay. RAVE is the full L/R workshop manual all the electrics etc.
