Probably not, unless it's been played with. My 98my hasn't. Anyway, don't interrupt, let the old buggers thrash it out. They must be missing each other. How's the holiday going Tony?:D:pop2:

We are talking a M51 the EGR is to control the production of NOx that is it's purpose. I don't give a toss about the M57 or the common rail Transit. NOx control is a function of air supply NOT fuel supply. EGR controls air supply to reduce the production of NOx by reducing combustion temperature. It does NOT control fuel supply which is adjusted by the ECU subject to engine RPM. The temp sensor in the MAF tells the ECU the air temp flowing past the hot wire sensor. It must know this to work out the correct flow rate as colder or warmer air would give false readout. The IAT preset in the ECU is to ensure EGR operation under all conditions actual fuelling is extrapolated by the ECU from engine temp and fuel temp. You CANNOT trim fuel without changing the rquested engine speed it is not possible.

Don't talk daft the ECU has to know the temp of the air flowing over the hot wire or it cannot calculate flow correctly. But that sensor has no effect on fuelling as you insist. What is the use of wearing a top coat in London because it's cold in Glasgow? The MAF supplies air flow info so that the ECU knows how much exhaust gas is being ingested at times of EGR operation and modulates the EGR to maintain a preset % gas to air subject to needs to reduce NOx productions. You really don't know how it works do you?

Keep going, you'll get there one day, plenty of folks have found a duff MAF strangles performance and uplugging it restores performance regardless of the EGR being blocked.
 
You are stuck in a time warp with 20 year old information.
As I said, not so long ago you were insisting that the temperature sensor in the MAF was not even connected, what prompted the change of mind on that.
Oh and the Pierburg MAF is not a hot wire device as you stated, it's a metal film device. Clearly you are fully au fait with the system Not.

And the technical writer is as mixed up as you are, there is no IAT sensor on the EGR engine. BMW tend to agree with me but you carry on if it makes you happy.

You really are stuck up your own anal orrifice aren't you? There is a thermistor in the MAF for inlet air temperature measurement.
that quote is from the fianl edition of RAVE the earlier version was incorrect as omitted the fuelling info.

You really don't have a bloody clue do you? The first paragraph is reasonable description of a petrol MAF. The second one a description of the non EGR IAT sensor.
