hi all has anyone fitted aftermarket sensors and if so are they anygood as i believe genuine new parts are like rocking horse s#*t thanks for any help
wammersi know you have probaley been asked this more times than you have had hot diners but could you please explain just once more what long term diferance it would make to leave disconected thanks again
The ECU uses a defult MAP in the absence of the MAF so the car will run fine without it, mine uses more fuel in that situation.was runnning fine then a noticable drop of in power after reading various post tried disconecting maf and the power was returned was not sure what effect it would have long term so started looking for a replacement have also found same part number is also used for bmw and vauxhall omega if you go on ebay and search part number there are quite a few aftermarket suppliers selling them for other vehicles but all part numbers are the same

You think what you like, I've proved it for myself and it's confirmed in the final update of RAVE. It's you that's spouting intransuigent crap.Nonsense the MAF is for EGR operation it does not effect fuelling. How many times are you going to spout this crap? It has been explained to you a couple of times. The Temp sensor in the MAF has nothing to do with fuelling and neither does the air flow reading.

While you are ace on FIP mechanics, you seem to now the best part of feck all about electronics, how do you think the M57 uses the MAF, or the later Transit? You show a distinct lack of knowledge of how a Diesel works unfortunately. What you claim is not possible.

I've done enough checks to be pretty sure of my ground, you as usual just use bluster.
Technical manuals are often revised to correct errors but I have never know a tech manual revised to change from correct to incorrect. Early versions of 98/99MY RAVE say the MAF controls the EGR, no mention of fueling, the last revision states it controls the MAF and fueling. True it's not like a petrol and only trims the fueling rather than being the be all and end all like a petrol.
Bollcocks Feck off back to your Sangria. We are talking a M51 the EGR is to control the production of NOx that is it's purpose. I don't give a toss about the M57 or the common rail Transit. NOx control is a function of air supply NOT fuel supply. EGR controls air supply to reduce the production of NOx by reducing combustion temperature. It does NOT control fuel supply which is adjusted by the ECU subject to engine RPM. The temp sensor in the MAF tells the ECU the air temp flowing past the hot wire sensor. It must know this to work out the correct flow rate as colder or warmer air would give false readout. The IAT preset in the ECU is to ensure EGR operation under all conditions actual fuelling is extrapolated by the ECU from engine temp and fuel temp. You CANNOT trim fuel without changing the rquested engine speed it is not possible.
So does my 1996 dse without egr, aluminium inlet manifold have a maf sensor.
Probably not, unless it's been played with. My 98my hasn't. Anyway, don't interrupt, let the old buggers thrash it out. They must be missing each other. How's the holiday going Tony?op2:So does my 1996 dse without egr, aluminium inlet manifold have a maf sensor.
