Changed lift pump.
Bodged Earth cable on new starter onto one of mounting bolts with very large washers to get good connection.
Worked brilliantly!!

Noticed hairline crack in lift pump where fuel feed from tank goes into it, wasn't there while in the box dunno how managed it but wer in a rush so lots of araldite over the crack.
Worked brilliantly!

It drove me round all friday and saturday, got me to uni saturday nite, then decided to do a big oily poo on the drive and break down again. :'(

Am now trying to trace an air leak in the fuel line, changed the filter and all the seals, bled it from every point possible but it still sucking air in somewhere.

Does diesel by any chance errode araldite ?

Why does everyone bodge with araldite or a.n other epoxy ? Bonding agents aren't any good unless the area is prepped and cleaned 1st.

If you applied the glue over the crack and didn't clean it properly 1st, then it's not going to seal the crack - just slow the leak until it starts to weep past the bonding agent.

Do a proper repair, and fit a new pump if it has a crack. You probably overtightened the fitting if it's split.

the answer to you question in blue is highlighted in red

araldite is an epoxy resin it can withstand petrol, diesel and most industrial chemicals and solvents......... but is NOT suitable for bodging a fuel pump!!! why would you ever bodge a fuel pump.......its a fuel pump FFS!!!

I didnt bodge the fuel pump!
I bodged the lift pump as its under low pressures

Anyway
Another lift pump later and the air leaks gone.

Now I think I need a new battery as it has been flattened so many times over the past 4 weeks of fixing the bloody truk. Ive checked all the earths many many many times so its not draining anywhere.
Am going overkill and getting a 780 cranking amp battery to ensure it turns over fast enough from now on!

I was going to get a tractor battery but the local dealership is closed so a Transit van battery it is!

the best battery would could ever put on is an optima red top the smallest one has 800CCA (cold cranking amps)

here is a tip for people with pre-engaged starters on series vehicles...... replace the lump of ****e thats on there with a 200tdi discovery one.... its a direct replacement and works far better

Did this to a tractor once,it started and i drove off 5 mins later it over heated and i shut down to the smell of burning rubber. The fan belt was fooked, everything including water pump was solid. No long term damage still going 30 years later.

 The lift pump and "Fuel pump" are the same thing  What do you suppose the Pump does....? It pumps fuel - therefore bodging it is no a sensible, safe, or practical measure.

So ive defrosted it, refilled it with lots of antifreeze.

Taken all the glowplugs out, they all work.

I tested them by connecting 1 to the ignition at a time an seeing if they were glowing after a few seconds on the key, so the ignition wiring to the glow plugs is fine.

Have you the early glowplugs (with the curly element needing up to 7V) or the later straight type(needing 12v) if these are wired as the early type they wont work as well

G-Man!

Ended up with a Bosch 820cca battery - works a treat with my 200tdi starter!!

And the battery has fixed my dodgy headlight!

Win Win !
