1st time LR owner - in need of seat belt advice

Hi there

I've just bought a 1984 V8 CSW to accomodate our growing family (number 6 is due in 1 month). I'm just going through the learning curve of finding out what / how to fix everything that's wrong with it, to make it into the family bus / pony club wagon that we need, and so I can start to enjoy it!

It has been very helpful reading some of the other posts to this site, as many of the problems seem fairly common.

I think I've got over the shock of just how many leaks it has and bushes / joints need replacing, and I've found a couple of suppliers for the standard stuff, but there's one question that's causing me problems.

Does anyone have any experience fitting seat belts to a vehicle which has never had them in the middle row, or the benches? There aren't any existing anchor points.

I wondered about retractable lap belts, such as are fitted to minibuses.

I have a good blacksmith, who can make / weld the unusual if necessary, although I doubt he's got much experience with aluminium bodywork.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I had a similar problem with a Series II that I used to own. In the end I took it to my local MOT station and for the price of a couple of pints the mechanic told me which areas he would deem as acceptable as seat-belt fixing anchor points. I then cobbled something together to fit them. As it is a requirement of the MOT to have adequate anchor points for seat-belts I thought that this was the best way. Hope it helps.

That sounds like really good sense. Were you fitting just to the floor, or did you fit 'normal' 3 point inertia belts?

I just fitted lap belts but I would imagae the process would be the same. It's really just a case of locating the legal strong point to anchor from and fixing a decent bracket to them. I think I bougnt the bracket from B&Q or somewhere like that

Hi I fitted a securone 384 three point centre seat belt and it has been fine, secureon supply all the bit and a plate to fit on the underside of the car. I just fitted the belt in the most convienient point by the other fixing points. I have passed an mot since fitting the belt.
