props ujs seem fine noise is mainly at front end of car think it may be two problems...after trawling the net last night looked at air intake for the turbo the pipe that runs from intercooler seems to have warn thru on the metal section and the rubber hoses are very very soft??? what to do???

Replace the rubber hoses.

BUMP.. chatting to guy in the pub tonight he says to change the fuel filter thats in the tank, recons thats where my noise could be coming from could also be the reason for the juddering on pull away? is this a possibility ?

hi guys im after a bit of advice i got my 1999 disco td5 chipped a couple of years ago straight away the clutch was slipping so i fitted a brand new clutch kit then a year later my transfer box went bang so i replaced that with a new reconditioned one 3 months later the transfer box went bang again and destroyed every thing inside the transfer box so i had a garage replace the transfer box as mine was under guarantee now since that has been done i get a juddering mostly when in 3rd gear when at 30mph and about 2000rpm does any one have any ideas on what it could be cheers regards mark

And does this only happen in 3rd gear/30mph/2000rpm, or does it happen in any gear but at 2000rpm, or any gear but 30mph?

Does it still happen if you dip the clutch at 30mph/3rd gear?

I'm trying to identify whether it's engine or transmission where the problem is.

Dave

Just to be clear, on a TD5 there is a filter which is part of the in-tank fuel pump which very often becomes blocked with black goo.

This forces the pump to work harder/noisier and eventually wear out. It could be your problem and would be a good/easy thing to check/clean.

But it could be a number of other things as well, including a blocked fuel filter just behind the rear off-side wheel.

Have you recently checked/renewed your air filter? If not do so, these engines are VERY hungry for air and need a clean filter to operate correctly. Sometimes the air filter gets wet and distorts itself so it reduce flow.

try your map sensor and get some diag details at tick over

hi guys ive cleaned my map sensor it was caked up so that done i had a aftermarket cone air filter like an induction one i removed that and replaced the standard air filter with a new one

as for the juddering you can feel it slightly in second gear about 20mph but it is far more noticeable in 3rd at 30mph and 2000rpm its only ever done this since i have had it back from the garage could it be the handbrake shoes binding because i know when they fitted the transfer box they took it out for a spin and then told me there was a grinding noise which turned out to be the handbrake binding obviously too tight i had a diognostics plugged in and i got

egr closed
egr shut

59 + 79 clutch load open fault something like that any way both number 59 and 79 with the same error

the guy wiped the error codes and the clutch ones and the egr valve one came back up again

the fault code was AC-CLUTCH DRIVE OPEN LOAD FAULT NUMBER 59 AND 79 this is what it showed up on diognostic check also the egr one which im not bothered about seen as i have a blanking plate fitted

The EGR fault is probably showing up if someone has disconnected the electrical connector for the EGR valve.

Re the handbrake, if you lightly put the handbrake on without pressing the button, how many clicks does it take to stop the car when it is very slowly rolling?

If it's 3 or less, the handbrake is too tight. There is an adjuster on the front face of the drum - back it off a bit, maybe 1/4 of a turn and see if that stops the juddering??
