1999 disco td5 juddering

Evening all after a bit of advice please, ive just flogged my old faithal depender n picked myself up a td5 disco GS 1999, i know next to nothing about the td5 lump. drove it home yesterday covering some 200miles in her already and love everything about the car. how ever today i let my brother have ago up the road and on pulling away the car made a shudering/ knocking noise, i had noticed this myself but thought it was my driving. since then ive noticed if turn a bend u have to change down a gear cos she struggles like its going to stall.
ive been looking on google and understand there could be oil in the ECU which ive checked and there is so ordered a new loom but could it be anything else?
Symptoms:- shudder on pull away and inbetwen gears, puffs out black smoke when shuddering (normally clear as any diesel),shudders if you coast/ slow down with out braking but in gear.seems pretty slugish i was expect bit more grunt seemed to take along time to get from 60mph-80mph to over take.
im thinking clutch,it feels good on the pedal tho, but im hopeing its this loom. also looks like the fuel filter is the same it rolled out the factory with could it be desperate for some loving n a service its covered 146k?

Sounds more like a faulty egr valve, blocked air intake or loose/split/delaminated turbo hose to me.
 
cheers ratty intersting just read about delaminated boost pipe and im getting a turbo whoosh from my glove box too and people have experienced this to

Block your EGR/ remove it.
It's a load of EU crap.
Their theory is that if you re-burn the exhaust gasses, it'll be cleaner - doesn't work!
De-cat & De-EGR & you'll pass your MOT with lower particulate figures.

hi thanks for everyones help still wanting for parts to be delivered to try out your siggestion,however this evening ive noticed another noise which is a whiney/high pitch drone/ rumble (sounds very much like when a diff goes) but it only does it with the throttle you can hear it best around 1200rpm if you dip clutch or coast and lift off the throttle it goes away whislt stationary u can get it to do it to. surely @1200rpm it wont be the turbo? could all my probs be related to the clutch? clutch is high/ish just above half way i guess?
 
hi just an update on my Td5 issues!ive fitted new EGR blanking kit, full service(filters oil etc etc) fitted new electric harness thing cleaned it up n nothing no differnce at all the only thing the EGR has made the car more responsive id say. so ive still got a rumply whine around 1500 rpm and a shuder on pull away with low revs (feels more sevier then a stall ) is it time to think of a new clutch? although it feels good on the peddle????? cheers neil
 
is that shudder present only in movement or stationary too?...if only in movement, try to put the car on some stabil stands as to let the wheels in the air and see if it happens this way too when it's in gear. ... somehow u must get closer to the answer
 
the judder is only when you pull away but if you give it plenty of revs it doesn't do it but you just end up looking like you cant drive.
the judder is around clutch bite may be a fraction befor knocks n juddres whole car engine seems to stay quite still tho n its chugs out little buffs of black smoke?
 
not had fault codes read yet put a shout out on another landy disco site to c if anyone is local that has one? what you thinking?
 
just to eliminate a management issue covered by diagnostics... though the black smoke could be something parallel with the shudder, not necessarely related
 
had a bit of a tinker with the disco today the noise seems to be coming from what i think is the water pump area? could this be my noise? still getting a shudder/judder but think that something else the noise is till present with clutch up or down in or out of gear moving or stationary???

Hi, just a thought I had a similar problem with my discovery td5 which had a judder and it turned out to be the hand brake shoes clamping on the drum which is attached to the rear Propshaft. This usually got worse when the car had been running for a while and things got hot. Maybe worth a look?
 
props ujs seem fine noise is mainly at front end of car think it may be two problems...after trawling the net last night looked at air intake for the turbo the pipe that runs from intercooler seems to have warn thru on the metal section and the rubber hoses are very very soft??? what to do???
