hi everybody. i am interested an buying this particular from an independent trader and having read some of the reviews of this motor i see its not for the fainthearted!!! i know landys do tend to have a habit of developing faults having read various mags over the years and i really want it but am i really just pouring 2 grand down the drain??? please help:confused:

No of course you're not everyother 1.8 petrol engined gaylander owner who moaned about the thing falling to pieces and eating head gaskets got it all wrong. They are the most reliable and cost effective car LR ever made.

FFS do a search will you. If you'd said £200 I'd have said you were wasting your money. at £2k you're having a fooking laugh..

i have done a search and about 90% of reviews battered the poor bloody things. when all you can go on is other ppls experiences then you have to take those experiences on board and that is why i came on this board so i can get genuine landy ppl experiences of the vehicle. thanks for the FFS by the way. nice real classy we all have to start somewhere FFS lol:beer2:

don't worry about redhand his bark is worse than his bite :p

Peeps know where I stand with the 1.8 I'm a fan of the k-series engine. It's suits me.

If you're not prepared to get your hands dirty or you don't know a good mechanic, walk away from the motor.

£2k for a 99 motor is silly money, it would have to be showroom condition for that price.

<£1500 is more like it, in fact that's a winter price as 4x4 are in demand. Come the summer it could drop another £500

nice one mate. what do you suggest then? something a little later or maybe a disco? i really really would like a nice s3 long wheel base safari but the gaffer wont have that. she said they are too spartan and at least freelanders look like a car inside lol

disco are reasonaly priced, 2k will get you a fair bit of motor.Frelanders are more car like, it depends what you wanna do.Have you considered dezul?Or theres old range rover classics-for n2 k youll get a nice one!

i have thought about an old classic range rover just unsure about the running costs. its unlikely one will have a small engine such as a 1.8 so the tax is gonna be astronomical, thanks gordon for that one. i wouldn't mind a vogue though. what are the older models like do you know?

Not true.Mine is 3.9 v8(cant get much less un healthy for the environment) and the tax is 185 for a year.Think a 1.8 freebie is 205 ish?
Will have details here The cost of vehicle tax for cars, motorcycles, light goods vehicles and trade licences : Directgov - Motoring
Running cost, well mines a toy so im not using it daily. Its simple to fix(get a hammer).Nice to drive, well plush inside, cost 37k new-I got it for 650-although that was 16 years after it was bulit.MPg 15-18 round town 25 on a motorway run.It will keep up with any thing on the motor way and beat the boyd up corsas off the lights-if you dont mind paying for the fuel.See of you can get a LPg one n your laffing.

a V8 RR, now that's the way they all should be., the daddy of engines

Have you seen 'reasons to buy a hippo thread'?

Was following a newish diesel RR vogue this evening, raced it off a roundabout, those things are slow as old Hector. Was all over the back of him with my ickle 1.8 haha :D :D I bet he felt like a ****, with the 20" multispokes he had on.

Never under estimate a hippo ;)

haha, i'll vouch for that N.I... until the head gasket goes!

I love my freelander, she gives me grief sometimes but i keep getting her sorted and then she's back racing around town again.

Or at least i hope... waiting for the gasket set to arrive of ebay before my mate can fix it for me this time round lol.

Also remember, when it breaks down 2 tonne of freelander is easier to push than almost 3 tonne of range rover lol.
